Sample imaging & analysis
The Unit offer samples imaging and analysis for internal (Kuwait University) and external users.Below are examples of the type of studies that can be carried out in this unit:
- Full range of sample imaging and microanalysis (e.g. polymers and biopolymers, ceramics, composites, corrosion assessments, fracture studies, catalyst, colloidal systems, nanoparticles, films and nanofilms, metal, conductors and semiconductors, cements, mechanical problems, mud and sand samples, environmental samples, full range of medical and biological samples...etc)
- Surface topography and sample's morphology.
- Material and biological image calculation and simulation ( e.g. size distribution and crystallite structure)
Training
Training will be available for single user or group users for inside and outside users, through the office of the Vice-Dean for Training and Consultation.
- Specimen preparation, processing and examination for Scanning Electron Microscopy. (Biological Specimen).
- Specimen Preparation, Processing and examination for Transmission Electron Microscopy . (Biological Specimen).
- Ultramicrotomy and Cryo Ultramicrotomy.
- Specimen preparation, processing and examination for Scanning Electron Microscopy. (Material Sciences).
- Elemental X-ray microanalysis by Energy Dispersive Spectroscope (EDS) for bulk specimen in Scanning Electron Microscope.
- Elemental X-ray microanalysis by Wavelength Dispersive Spectroscope (WDS) for both bulk specimen in Scanning Electron Microscope.
- Specimen preparation and processing for High Resolution Transmission Electron Microscopy.
- Specimen examination in High Resolution Transmission Electron Microscope.
- Freeze fracture and Etching Techniques (Biological specimen).
- Darkroom.
Demonstration & Open-Door tours
On all the techniques and facilities, demonstration and Open-Door tours can be arranged in the Unit for group of users, students from various institutes, private organization and researchers from academic and research institutes from inside and outside Kuwait.
The Unit holds Open-Door tour for all the people inside and outside Kuwait. The date of this tours will be announced in the Science college and in the university newspaper 'Afaq'
