What is Venture Capital?
A venture is defined as a project prospective converted into a process or a product with an adequate assumed risk and investment. Venture Capital is associated with the knowledge economy and can be used as a measure of innovation to the economy. Every year, there are millions of businesses created around the world. The majority of those businesses are either small or medium-sized, which are initiated by enthusiastic entrepreneurs, who seek guidance, finance and expertise. VCs provide funding and strategic support to companies in the early and high growth stage of their life cycle.

Key Differentiators between VC firms in US & MENA?
A key difference between the VC industry in our region and the US is that in the US over half of the total transactions that took place were seed and Series A deals, with fewer deals consummated at later stages. This funnel effect is reversed in the MENA region, with most of the deals taking place at the Series B and C levels only. This can be attributed to the fact that we remain relatively risk averse as investors in this region, but it also demonstrates that entrepreneurs and young growth businesses need to be better educated on the VC industry and the benefits that such investment can bring.
